WAYWO Feb 3, 2008 - Does It Stay or Does It Go?

Sun Feb 03, 2008 at 03:30:12 PM PDT

At the end of this month, my husband, two cats, and I are moving across the country, returning to Delaware. Thank goodness it's a leap year - we have that extra day!

Unfortunately, we are moving back to assist Rich's elderly parents, and will be living in a makeshift apartment in their house until we can determine how much distance is possible. ;) In the meantime, our style will most definitely be cramped.

To prepare for this move, and the attendant downsizing, we are going through a major purge of our possessions. This is, I think, a good thing for us. Like most Americans, we really have too much "stuff'.

Except for the craft stuff.

You can never have too much craft stuff - can you? My craft supplies include unspun wool, unwashed wool, spinning wheel, niddy noddies, lazy Kate, yarn, fabric, needles, thread, knitting needles, crochet hooks, scissors of various types and sizes, knitting patterns, sewing patterns, instruction books, thimbles, stitch markers, interfacing, a loom, sewing machine, serger, cones of serger thread, drum carder, wool combs, warping pegs, rigid heddles, weaving thread, pins, and more. Oh, so much more. It boggles the mind, how much one woman can store in one bedroom of a two-bedroom house. Heck, you can even WALK in that room, which is also the office. Most of it fits in the closet!

But now, I must consolidate. And it hurts. What do I get to keep, and what do I pass on to a new home?

I've passed some yarn and knitting needles on to my aunt, who is learning to knit. Free supplies are a wonderful thing, when you are a beginner.

The decorative ribbons, raffia, and miscellaneous things like that are going to thrift; they're so inexpensive and easy to replace that I'm not worried about getting more if I need them.

Craft paints? Bye-bye.

The GOOD yarn goes with me, as does the wool. Well, except for that scratchy stuff I got on Ebay three years ago ... Yeah, that's gone. I didn't even like to handle it, but I used it to try out the drum carder. It didn't matter if I ruined it, heh.

If you had to cut your supplies down, how would you do it? It's really difficult!
