The commercial media's attack on Obama has tightened the race in North Carolina.
We must redouble our efforts to get out the vote and end the outrageous guilt-by-association attacks on Obama for once and for all.
Obama has responded brilliantly to every attack and every turn of events. Now it's our turn GOTV.

We might have hit a sort of high water mark with the fake scandal. They over reached to grotesque levels on that one and some people do have a sense of it. It's not like we haven't seen the 'politics of personal destruction,' as Bill Clinton put it. There could be some backlash where people are just sick of it because they know a media lynching when they see it.
This weekend is huge. There is a very real chance to end this thing clean and clear right now at the beginning of May. It would be absolute gold for the Democrats to have the whole of the summer with this dynamite nominee building support across the country. That's what Indiana and North Carolina need to recognize. It's a huge opportunity if what you want is a Democratic president.
McCain is not getting my state. Is he getting yours?

Sad, that it'll now cost previously un-ID'd voters to be able to vote in upcoming elections, but it sure seems like we'll need to get people IDs ~and~ get them registered to vote.
by martini on Thu May 01, 2008 at 08:11:29 AM PDT
that you can get a photo ID for free from the BMV. We need to encourage people to go there and get one if they don't have one of the other acceptable government issued forms.
You probably need to take a hundred different items to the BMV to get your ID, just like a DL. I finally got mine recently after living in the state for over a year. It took me three tries over several months to finally get the right combination of ID.

I watched the webcast at the Herald Times. You really captured the event! In fact, your pictures of the speech are better than most of the ones posted at HTO - might want to upload them there too.

In the near term, Obama will have to clean up in Bloomington if he's going to win IN. I hope he's making a swing to Purdue as well. While I'd personally like to see him visit Notre Dame, a sizeable majority of Domers come from other states, so it may not be worth the visit.
In the longer term, I hope like hell that the SD's realize that alienating 18-29 voters and alienating AA voters even more is not the path to future Dem success. Obama's appeal to young voters should be his trump card in pulling in the SD's.

I'm not sure exactly WHAT is says. It certainly means that Obama generates way more passion and enthusiasm. But I don't know if this translates into votes. (It didn't seem to in rural PA.) I kind of fear that maybe it just means that Hillary voters don't go to rallies. Perhaps they don't go to rallies because they are not excited by the political process, or maybe the majority of them are just completely cynical about politicians in general (and THEIR candidate in particular). Still, they go to the polls and pick Hillary. Sadly, I suspect that these non-participating voters are also the "low-info" voters who are most susceptible to smears and misleading soundbites (and HELPFUL TV pundits who can give them the scoop right in their own living rooms...).

Students have time! I'm a woman, 62, with about a 50 hour a week workload, and I send HRC money on a weekly basis. Even though this site is very slanted to Obama, I check in on this site and many others daily. I love politics but despite invitations to go to rallies, I've got little interest in hanging around screaming in a field house somewhere. If you think that smaller numbers at rallies translates into lack of interest, you are very wrong. Age matters.

and I don't make it to rallies. But in addition to contributing money to candidates, including Obama, I encourage my family members to go to events on my behalf. I am a woman over 50 as well, and I am represented.

call---I've gotten great responses in Indy and some other areas, and Bloomington looks to be Obama territory. But those in other areas are not so sure----I don't think they feel they know Obama well----but many are willing to listen to what you like and know about Obama----and you can set the record straight on false rumors and misconceptions. I feel I may have convinced some people and at least planted the seed of the possibility of voting for Obama in many others. I know the Clinton people are blanketing the state with phone calls----people are complaining that they've received 2 and 3 calls from her people----so let's do it for Obama.

Most of the latest polls show some of the highest amount of undecided voters of any state. Some have the undecided voters as high as 21%
I am in northwest Indiana, Fort Wayne to be exact with the 260 area code. There are not enough workers up here. The Obama camp really needs help with canvassing and calls in this area (it is the second largest city in Indiana) if anyone is close. My neighborhood is pretty republican but even many of these voters are on the fence and are open to hearing more about Obama. I talked to a lady yesterday who has been canvassing this area for two weeks and she said even the republican voters have been very friendly and are very curious about Obama and his policies. She said they have gotten many questions about what he has done and wants to do and very few about all the media scandals like Rev. Wright and other stupid stuff. I think the media is really out of touch with the people on these things.

.. when comparing 3,000 showing up for Hillary vs. 13,000 or so showing up for Barack, we must remember that Hillary's demographic is mostly made up of people who can't be bothered to go to rallies - but they do VOTE. Having said that, this is a bigger disparity between rally numbers than we saw in Pennsylvania, so I'm hoping that bodes well for Obama's chances.
Thanks for the excellent diary - tipped and recommended.

I can't stop myself from recommending diaries as beautiful as this that give me an enormous sense of hope by reporting in image and word the continued enthusiastic support for Senator Obama that we've seen manifest in state after state after state.
On the one hand, I wish that more of the important non presidential politics related diaries were on the rec list - especially on this 5th anniverary of the strutting war criminal sporting a cod piece in front of that infamous "mission achomplished" banner.
But I also realize that what you've presented to us HeartlandLiberal, is not something that we will see on CNN, MSNBC, etc., etc.
So thank you for this wonderful diary.

Time and again, Hillary voters show up at polls but not at rallies. Hillary will be strong in Indiana. However, if this motiviates you to donate or volunteer your time to make phone calls, great.

I'm a cynical old fart who doesn't wear a flag lapel pin ... in fact I don't even wear lapels.
Diaries like this restore my belief in the goodness of the people of our nation (if not many of it's politicians).
HeartlandLiberal, this diary made me teary to the point I had trouble reading it.
If anything prevents this man from becoming our president, I despair for our nation. I'm old enough that I'd probably never see the devastating effects of such a failure ... only its beginning.
You say, "but at 62, you have years to live." But, you're wrong. I don't have insurance and can't afford it and refuse to sacrifice my wife's future security (home equity) for my near-term health needs.
I spoke to a Dutch (citizen) brother-in-law today and felt I had to apologize for my country. He assured me he understood that the "nation" was noble, only our president was "unfortunate" (Dutch diplomat-speak can be cutting). The need for the conversation arose because my wife's Dutch bank ABN AMRO insists she close her investment account due to her U.S. residence and associated legal requirements.
This is our place in the world today. We "earned" it. We deserve it. We brought it on ourselves.
We can fix it, but it will take at least a generation. I'll vote for Obama come November and feel I've done all I can to help.
If politics-as-usual prevent me from entering that vote, shame on us all.
If seniority equated to good judgment, John McCain would be appointed president.

He outlined with specific figures, including the $28 per person bonanza, why he rejected the proposed gas tax holiday of McCain and Clinton for the pandering piece of fluff it is.
Yesterday it was $11.34, so I donated that much to Obama.
I have to go take a fluff now.
