Politics is like driving. To go backward, put it in R. To go forward, put it in D. 76 days until the '08 elections. Let's paint the country BLUE!

...from your link, when asked why didn't never mentions the word gay in any of her speeches:
"Well I do mention, uh, from time to time, um, you know I don't mention, you know, everything in every speech that I give, but uh people, you know, know how committed I am and they know what I've done, and that I led the efforts uh to try and defeat the Federal Marriage Amendment, working with you know all of the major uh gay rights organizations, uh, so you know I'm gonna continue to not just talk about what I will do but demonstrate by my actions what I have done and will do."
Did I just smell a little homophobia in the air? Hmmm.

I put up with his virulently homophobic campaign when he was running for Senate. But then he became a comentator on Fox News. And then he came into MY district in Connecticut and endorsed Chris Shays, the biggest cheerleader of the war there is. Lieberman light - I said that during his campaign.
by gladkov on Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 07:36:46 PM PDT
Jesus H. Christ! WTF? Is the DLC an extension of the GOP now?
Ford's daddy was my Rep for decades. He was terrific at constituent service - but he became a machine politician and resigned under serious fire. He's quite lucky he didn't stand trial; under the same circumstances, you or I would have.
His son immediately took his seat, care of his machine. Harold Ford, Jr. is NO Harold Ford, Sr. The thought of him running for POTUS makes me fall off my chair! He is NOT Presidential material, and never will be.
I don't own a TV (I consider myself lucky in that regard), and wouldn't watch FOX, anyway, but wasn't aware he was a FOX commentator, but doesn't the fact that he's on Faux News say enough?

or the first serious black presidential candidate, so he could be jealous of Obama.
Harold Ford had me fooled a long time too until I realized he was trying to play both ends against the middle and was always triangulating DLC style whenever he could. Didn't he run against Pelosi for Speaker just so that the Blue Dogs would have one of their own to vote for?
So he sold out and tried to make his way by being Republican lite, and he can;t help but resent Obama getting where he has gotten without selling out traditional Democratic principles.

put a corporate-friendly face on the Democratic Party. Their ideology was the familiar neoliberal economic policy from the beginning. PNAC-style neoconservatism was invented in 1997 with the organization, and became part of DLC dogma shortly thereafter.

It's like the joke about the aftermath of WWII: a sailor, a soldier, and a pilot get together for a reunion drink. The sailor and the soldier turn to the pilot, "So, who won the air war?"
Activists fight the fight on the ground, and they matter. Some of them also join in over the internet, but that participation rate remains a minority. The effect of the air war that unfolds on blogs remains slight.

Luckily, Strickland will likely be popular enough to get reelected without you. I hear this stuff in my congressional district too and while I am as annoyed as anyone that my congresswoman says she will support Hillary to the bitter end even now that her district went for Obama by 70%, it isn't worth trying to destroy an excellent progressive congresswoman. Then that would be us doing the party destroying and division-sowing.
BTW our state chair Chris Redfern was at our city Dems club meeting about two weeks ago and he talked about how Governor Strickland "took Hillary's hand and led her across Ohio" and he said "If Barack Obama is the nominee, he will do the same for him." I doubt this is Chris just blowing smoke. He's a pretty practical, goal-oriented guy and knows what he's talking about.

by anastasia p on Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 08:05:17 PM PDT
Your congresswoman declares her vote for Hillary, when 70% of her district voted for Obama... and her constituents would be destroying the party by voting for someone else who may actually represent them in the next election cycle?
Who's really doing the destroying, here? The person elected to represent a district and doesn't, or the person who votes for someone who will?
And, by the way, are "excellent progressive[s]" likely to support the Republicanization of the Democratic primary process? Those who will go to the bottom of the ocean for HRC seem to accept that, if not actively promote it. That doesn't seem progressive to me, let alone excellent.

She's co-chair of Hillary's campaign committee -- difficult for her to switch. I was disappointed that Strickland supported Clinton as well but he's been a good governor (which we desperately needed) and I think Hillary was calling in the chits for the support Clintons gave Strickland when he ran so I'm willing to give him some slack. He's a very decent guy and would expect him to support whoever is the nominee. (He was standing behind Hillary during her "shame on you Obama" screed and looked like he was searching for the nearest hole to crawl into.)

by barnowl on Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 08:56:27 PM PDT
As for "dark ties" to the energy sector, perhaps you mean his ties to coal? That's a difficult issue given the options. But on the energy bill just passed, Strickland was the one kicking and screaming to prevent our gouging, bought-and-paid-for Republican "leadership" in the lege from allowing the utilities to skyrocket our electric bills next year to a point that would crush all of us and drive business out of state.
He may not be progressive enough to suit YOU but he is a pragmatist who has been able to work well enough with an unfriendly lege to actually get some good things done in the areas of education, health care, housing, job creation and energy. I would love perfection too, but Mssrs Husted and Harris aren't going to allow it. I hope instead of griping about our governor (whose approval rating is sky-high by the way) you will get out and work on behalf of one of the Democratic house candidates running to help us gain the four seats we need to take control.

How many times has Obama called a meeting of the SD...None.

tonight- all of us registered Democrats who pay attention and vote. We are steamed at the way this primary is being dragged out while Obama has to deal with the smears thrown at him by the Clintons and the Republicans with the complicity of the media. (See Rachel Maddow's comments about the narrative vs the facts on David Gregory's show today)
If he ends up with the most states, the most pledged delegates, and the popular vote and isn't our nominee- what do we do? We discussed staying home... maybe not. Maybe joining a third party... too complicated. The one thing that we can do immediately after a betrayal like this by the party that we have been loyal to is change our registration to Independent. It is a small thing but if others join us it will be noticeable.
