As an Obama supporter, this still makes me feel like shit.

That's why he's doing it before Super Tuesday.

Edwards had more than enough support to be a player on Super Tuesday. Hillary had to be considered the favorite in a 3-way contest. Edwards withdrawing, with or without an endorsement of Obama, fundamentally changes the Super Tuesday contests. The timing is no accident, and gives Obama time to capitalize on it before next Tuesday.

thoughtful and self sacrificing move on Edwards' part. As others have said...I'm an Obama supporter, but very sad to see John drop out. Maybe there is an agreement between Obama and Edwards that will sooth the disappointment. Maybe an "end poverty Manhattan project" for Edwards to run!

I also wonder if JE timed his announcement to dampen any pro-Clinton media that might have come from last night's scene in FL.
I would like to thing that Edwards is inclined to help Obama, but that is to be seen.
This is really sad. I'm pleased to hear that he's advocating his key issue of poverty all the way to the bitter end.
What a class act.

This makes me feel bad too. I really like John Edwards and I hope he is our next AG or even supreme court appointee.
Sorry guys.

......another Obama supporter. Edwards withdrawl helps Obama, as his message is more in tune with John Edwards' mssg.

At least stay until Super Tues.
We need his conscience.
Damn, Damn and Damn. I hadn't even decided yet, tho' was leaning his way.
If the candidate from the Dem party doesn't find a role for him I'm going to be really irritated.
All channels have it now.

behind the winning candidate (whichever it might be) prior to Super Tues, I would certainly hope he gets VP, AG, or SCJ.
SC Justice was actually one I hadn't even thought about, but it would be the best role he could take to help the country.
And nothing says we gotta have just 9, so he could be installed early in '09, really :)
Got a problem with my posts? Quit reading them. They're usually opinions, and I don't come here to get in arguments.

The convention in modern times has been to appoint law professors, but as Oliver Wendell Holmes said, the life of the law is not logic but experience.
God forbid that we should have a Justice who knows what actually goes on in a court of law.

Every single member of the current SCOTUS was an appellate judge prior to their appointment. But, Edwards can take solace in the fact that Earl Warren was a politician before getting the call to the benc, so there's some good precedent.

Until modern times it was common to name pols to the court, and justices usually did not come up through the courts.
There's a whole recent school of thought - which I agree with - that the Court should have more diverse backgrounds, and especially in public life including politics.

Damn. I hate this. As slim as his chances were, it was so important to have him in the race - to keep his issues in the forefront and (donning flameproof suit) to make the debates watchable.
